Esports offers Western Australia the opportunity to diversify our state’s economy with the development of a new industry, in turn creating new opportunities for employment, study, tourism and beyond. As WA’s premier esports organisation, Pentanet.GG looks forward to being part of the digitisation of Australia, starting with our home state.
The Pentanet.GG organisation is the esports arm of WA’s favourite local telco, Pentanet (ASX:5GG). Perth’s own private high-speed telecommunications network has been designed to enable better gaming conditions with quick connectivity between Australia with Asia. PGG is testament to Pentanet’s dedication to gaming and esports, building a growing audience of gamers within our WA ecosphere.
At PGG, we believe that there’s a game for everyone, no matter what age, skill level, or interest. The three pillars of Pentanet.GG are:
Pentanet.GG aims to expand our competitive teams across multiple titles with all players recruited, training and living in Western Australia.
Pentanet.GG burst into the Australian esports scene in 2020. Our first venture in professional competition saw us acquire a spot in Australia and New Zealand’s League of Legends pro-league, Oceanic Pro League (OPL). The move saw PGG become WA’s first and only OPL team. Our inaugural season saw our highly competitive team reach the OPL Playoffs – a proud achievement for such a new team in a brand-new organisation!
In late-2020, Riot Games shocked the region with the dissolution of the OPL. Our mission to grow WA’s esports scene here in WA remained strong, and we knew the phoenix would rise from the ashes of the OPL.
In 2021, the League of Legends Circuit Oceania (LCO) was announced to replace the OPL. Designed in collaboration with the eight teams that were involved with the OPL’s final season, we joined our comrades in battle and took our first place in an almost undefeated season.
Taking out the LCO grand final in Split 1 secured us a place at MSI (Mid-Season Invitational) in Iceland, where we made history as the first Australian team to make it out of Groups stage in an international competition. Read the full story here.
In Split 2 2021, our team once again finished first place for the season. We battled our way to the grand final, ultimately falling at the final hurdle and finishing second.
Focussing on upcoming WA League of Legends talent, our PGG.RISE Academy team completed their first series in Split 2 of 2020, placing fourth in the Oceanic Challenger Series. We look forward to furthering our development player careers when the opportunity arises again in the Oceanic region.
